Strings for Electric Guitars

Filter

Thin electric guitar strings are generally somewhat easier to play. Certain techniques however become increasingly difficult with somewhat thicker strings. A whole tone bend with 0.010 strings is possible whereas with 0.012 can be impossible for many. Similarly, a thicker string gauge has its advantages when a Bass is played in down tuning. Strings with a higher gauge string sound simply more voluminous and have generally more sustain. The momentum increases significantly with thicker strings. On the whole thicker strings have a fatter sound.
