There are many drum skins or drum heads. Ply drum heads that have a bright, open sound, or double-drum-skins, which offer a particularly rich, dark sound. The latter skins are therefore often used in rock music. Also popular are coated (harsh) skins, they can often be found with jazz musicians. Resonant heads are usually much thinner than drum heads and should therefore not be used as such.
